CrossFit Kids Petoskey

We have begun our final CrossFit Kids session for the summer.  If you missed the first day/week you can still join us.  This session will run through August 23.  

We have set our schedule for the school year as well.  We will let the dust settle on the first week of school and we will begin the kids program on September 9, 2013. These will be 4 week sessions.  

July 29-August 23

Ages 3-5: 9-9:30am Tuesday and Thursday

Ages 6-10: 10-11am Monday/Wednesday, OR Tuesday/Thursday

Ages 11-15: 11am-12pm Monday/Wednesday, OR Tuesday/Thursday

Our school year kids program will begin September 9, 2013 and the classes are as follows:

September 9-October 3

Ages 3-5: Monday and Wednesday 9am-9:30am

Ages 6-10: Monday and Wednesday 4-5pm

Ages 11-15:  Tuesday and Thursday 4-5pm

Program Summary

The number one goal of CrossFit Kids is to make fitness FUN.  We want our kids to have every opportunity possible and to help make that possible we can give them a great start on living healthier, happier lives.

  • Make fitness FUN
  • Help shape the lives of our children
  • Give them a lifelong definition of what fitness is
  • Curb childhood obesity and the ailments associated with it
  • Hone life skills 
  • Teach them how to move and how to lift (quality of movement)
  • Change their perception of themselves
    • define themselves by what they can do, not what they look like

Another key component to CFK has to do with the mental benefits of exercise.  There are two books in our recommended reading list, Spark and Brain Rules, that describe in detail the science and benefits of exercise on individuals and specifically our children.  We highly recommend taking a look at these.  Exercise releases specific hormones and neurotransmitters that cause the brain to be healthier and lead to increased learning capacity.  These books do a great job of detailing how this occurs. 

Part of our program will include some learning time following our WODs.  We are not claiming to be able to produce world class athletes and geniuses at the same time, but we do understand the benefits of exercise not only on the body but also the mind.  

As we enter 2012, with the construction of our new facility, we will be adding CrossFit Kids class times.  The general structure will be as follows, 

  • Pre-K = 3-5 years old
  • Kids = 5-10 years old 
  • Teens = 10-15 years old

These are not fixed ages, as parents we understand that our children all differ in their rates of development, physically, emotionally and mentally.  Safety will be our number one factor in placing your child in the correct class, so as your child continues to develop we will have constant communication as to how they are doing and adjust our programming accordingly.  As we mentioned earlier, our number one goal is to make fitness FUN.  

All of our trainers have experience working with children.  Some of our trainers work in the local school districts with the sports teams.  We want to continue to help your children have success on and off the field.
